Penguin Hide & Seek
I'm currently working out a Penguin Hide & Seek minigame, which should take only a couple of days for me to finish. However, I don't have access to the actual 'hidden' penguins (which look like objects rather than penguins), so I'll have to make do with regular plain non-hidden ones.
Because of that, I've decide that instead of hiding penguins in a single spot, I would add a few hundred or so random paths all over the world (auto-generated) that they'll be walking along within a certain area. I plan on having 3 penguins walking about at any time and have each of them respawn after 30 minutes (so every 10 minutes a new one spawns somewhere). Players would receive clues about their current location (like 'walking around a castle') and the first one to find the penguin gets a prize.
Now, there are of course two things to decide:
> What should the rewards be? Personally, I'm thinking of giving the winner a few free lottery tickets (plain cash for Ironman mode players) along with a random item, which can be anything like rune, dragon or barrows equipment, a medium/hard/elite casket, whip, fury, dds, a couple potions, some food etc., but feel free to make your own suggestions.
> How will players receive the clues? I could do it the same way as with the wyrms, that you need to have a scroll with you, but something else would also work (or maybe you only receive a clue about one penguin closest to you?)
Feel free to give any feedback or suggestions for this
No, I haven't forgotten about CW and the new bosses, this is just something small I'm adding in between doing the rest. Chill out.

The winner?I'm thinking of giving the winner
I thought it was a minigame you could play daily/weekly with a reward :s

Yeah that's how it was in RS... every day 3 new ones would spawn across the whole of RS, and people would go looking for them. There were entire clans devoted exclusively to hunting down and finding the penguins each day.No pity wrote:The winner?I'm thinking of giving the winner

Perhaps this isn't like that though. I think I'd prefer it the other way, and perhaps make it more exclusive with an introductory quest needing to be completed to participate.

Re: Penguin Hide & Seek
I think everyone should be able to win here..
I think having those items as reward is wrong, as those items are already in mass amounts in the economy and is nothing special.
Perhaps you can introduce an outfit that gives you bonus XP in the Hunter skill (still the slowest skill in-game.
- Introduce penguin points, 1 point per found penguin.
- Introduce bonus xp armour (full set gives 10%? more Hunter xp) (2% per part)
- Introduce XP lamps of (50K experience? in a skill of choise) per penguin point?
This update has so much more potential to make it worth doing, having a whip or whatever as reward gives you not the "I have something" feeling, on PkHonor it's more like "ah a whip" the items are just not special enough to make this attractive.

Re: Penguin Hide & Seek
I agree with Rick
After all you're literally hunting a penguin, I'd like to see Hunter xp/outfit anything related to the skill.
Penguin points and a penguin point shop seems nice, the mentioned hunter outfit can be in it, XP lamps for a skill of choice? 100k maybe 250k XP per penguin point? Lottery ticket for 1 point, a chompy bird hat or another cosmetic item for 1000 points and tradable.
Maybe instead of a hint have the penguins completely random (given there's a path to walk to) and use a revenant clue scroll? Not sure about that though.

There should be a toggle option for clues. if you want to see the hints, toggle it on, or vise versa. I don't really want to pvm, or skill with a scroll in my inventory.

Eh.. I kinda like this idea but I'd rather the rewards to not be so limited. There'd be little incentive for players to partake because not everyone will care about the suit or agility course. Aside from that, what about when the player exceeds 50 penguins found?

Re: Penguin Hide & Seek
Only the first person to the penguin gets a reward? So only those with Honors able to scout out vast areas quickly get anything from this?
This D&D is supposed to be about people working together and helping each other out, not fighting over who gets the rewards. Sure, maybe give the first person to the Penguin an additional bonus (eg x2 reward) but please don't prevent anyone else from getting anything from it.
Penguin Points (PP) should be the reward, and you should have different things to spend them on:
I'd also suggest making penguins move less frequently. Once an hour or so would be good enough ; people need time to find them and to then help others get to them as well. If they're to be any good, and actually worth finding, you want the rewards useful and completion of the D&D infrequent enough to make sure that it doesn't drain away all of your time. You could also add a limit to how many you can find within 24H.
I'll create a spreadsheet outlining the XP rates at different levels given these formulas later, if people are concerned they may be 'too OP' or 'not good enough'.
EDIT: Full (+ visual) breakdown of proposed XP rates is below.
Hunter: 100K/300K/500K XP @ 99 w/ Base/Donator Premium per point.
Other Skills: tl;dr ~100K/200K/300K XP @ 99 w/ Base/Donator Premium per point and XP gains are increasing at a slower rate than Hunter

Penguin Points (PP) should be the reward, and you should have different things to spend them on:
- Hunter XP ; I think the formula of (1000*SQRTlevel) + [(level^3)/(SQRTlevel)]*X would be a good start; X = variable based upon status (e.g. regular = 1, donator = 3, premium = 5). This formula keeps it still useful for lower levels and not only those at 99.
- XP in any skill ; formula of (100*level) + [(level^3)/(SQRTlevel)]*X, with regular = 1, donator = 2 and premium = 3 so it's not particularly efficient but potentially still preferable if you really hate a skill and are happy training it very slowly.
- Access to Penguin Agility Course ; XP/hr should be dependent on how many points this requires. Or, if 1 PP per lap, could grant 1M Agility XP per time it is completed.
- Penguin Suit ; transformation into a Penguin.
- Penguin Pet ; self explanatory.
