Thank you, this was a great post.Dismayed wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 5:30 pm Took some time to reply to this so the dust would settle a bit. I can only speak for myself, but in all honesty I really didn't see this going this far. Yes, we bant we flame and joke around but nothing I saw as personal attacking. I do want to apologize if you took any of my words/baits to heart, I appreciate what you do for the server and the game. Knowing it is all volunteer work it takes a strong individual to do that and have people on their backs 24/7. I do want to make a point in this though, you are victimizing yourself a bit too much. You decided to take the easy route and fight fire with fire and have also been attacking us as well back. I get people get pushed to the limits, but there's been multiple occasions recently where you have started with me/us first and I totally understand it, but this post is making you out to be a victim and innocent of everything you've done, because you were 'pushed' to this point.
I'll cool out on my jokes towards you, and hope that others see this and can do the same. Again, your work is appreciated here and we all want the server to continue on.
Have a great break if you truly are taking one, we will see you soon.

Re: Out-of-game Moderation
Sad to see this post after a while away from PkHonor, a game I'm very passionate about and still love. My thoughts.
Bad crowds turn players away. In my experience what is perceived as only 'just banter' is inherently just an excuse to be negative with an easy cop-out excuse. Belittling people for simply not wanting to deal with random toxicity spewed their way says a lot about the belittler's character.
But it's fine, you can't argue with some people as they are stubborn. It is also 'just the internet' where anonymity brings out the worst in some people who are probably just dealing with their own IRL problems and get a kick out of being mean and getting away with it without any actual consequences.
Ultimately, when more players dip out because the few ruin the game for the many it'll be that small group that will regret it in time when there's no one left but themselves.
Do better, and remember that we are all just individuals on a floating rock in the middle of infinite space arguing on a re-make of a classic video game.
TLDR; Keep being negative and you will bring the server down and out quicker than you can type 'it's just banter'.
Also, I hope all my PkHonor buddies are doing well, are happy and are succeeding in their lives

Re: Out-of-game Moderation
I understand that there's currently a lot of frustration by the player base, the staff team and the developers (basically the entire community) in regards to how things are currently being run. Due to the mental health issues that I have been facing the past two years, and which have not fundamentally improved (my dad's worsening heart condition hasn't helped in that regard either), it's really hard for me to be actively involved with the server. I really want to help Brant finish the client which I'm thrilled about releasing, because it's another huge step forward for the development of the server, but I just can't find the motivation to do so.
As one of the founders of the game back in 2009 - when the second generation was launched by myself, Hamade and Sami - I want nothing more than to see this server thrive. As such, I agree with the sentiment that a strong executive leader with a good feeling for the game and its community should step up and help run this game. I don't want my mental health issues to stand in the way of the success of this server, and as such I would like to, at least temporarily, step aside as owner and lead programmer, so that someone else who is more capable than myself can take my place and give this server the boost it needs, in terms of community management, staff management, development and marketing. I'd still like to stay active as an unpaid volunteer, so that I can help our developers when they have questions on pieces of code or are stuck on certain complex tasks, but I believe it's in everyone's best interest if another (paid) lead developer would step up and help Rapsey to run the game.
For several months (maybe longer, I don't quite remember), I have been a strong believer in putting our faith in our developers (both current and aspiring developers) and to give them all the access and tools they need to not only develop, but also release updates as they see fit. The lack of trust I had in this regard in past years has clearly gotten in the way of progress, and I want that to cease. Of course, there's always risk when trusting people, but that's something I'm more than willing to take, if it means that PkHonor can move forward without having to wait until I get better, for we don't yet know how long that will take.
Raj, you've been an incredibly helpful and loyal moderator and developer and I wish you nothing but the best. It pains me to see that the underappreciation of your work has led to this point, and I really understand that you feel the way you do. We will never force you to do anything that you don't want to do, so if you feel like you wish to stop developing and to remove any and all work in progress, then I don't blame you for it in the slightest. It's your work, and you can do with it as you see fit, you are indeed under no obligation whatsoever.
I hope we can come to a proper resolution to the stalemate that currently has this server in its grasp, and I truly hope Rapsey and myself will be able to work out the needed solutions in short order. We will keep you guys posted when there is news. I wish you all the best.

This must've been a very difficult decision but like you said I think this will be immensely benefitial to the server.
I hope you and your father get better as well and that removing yourself (temporarily?) from your current position on here gives you a bit more breathing room in that regard.

Re: Out-of-game Moderation
Really appreciate that you took the time to say all this and I can't imagine the conclusions you came to were easy. I personally don't think you have to step aside, I just think someone who holds/has as much executive control as you do needs to be in the picture, or that 'senior devs' on PkHonor can jointly make decisions without needing to wait on you. I would hope that you don't fixate on this implication that you're somehow in the way - there are many things in the way right now. RSPSes are dying in general, the community is quite small and people are not nice to each other, and folks who had a lot of motivation haven't stuck around. Yes, the trust issue on the dev end is among these issues, but it's one that we can do something about by finding someone to help out and elevating their privileges.Mike wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 7:47 pm I understand that there's currently a lot of frustration by the player base, the staff team and the developers (basically the entire community) in regards to how things are currently being run. I don't think we can find someone that's both a community manager and a programmer at the moment, but if we can get a programmer that agrees to focus on the development end while keeping themselves away from community matters (atleast at first, or until they become acquainted and accepted), I think that will do a lot for development progress and morale.
Alternatively, someone else handles the community matters while the dev focuses on dev stuff. I just don't want this to feel like we're trying to get a new owner, no one wants that. People just want development to move more
Edit: there is the separate issue of the staff hierarchy right now, I think Ryan is within his rights to identify a new staff manager and that Jayden ought to be able to take that role without dealing with an analogous form of the developer issue - right now, he lacks powers to do everything on his own, and it could lead to a similar problem on the staff side of things. I know this is technically something you and Rapsey gave to Ryan, but I think this concept of having it turn into a separate part of the trifecta is still important.

yes new content would be a plus but your mental health is more deserving of focus. Don’t put yourself in a place you get yourself out of.
Much love homie.

Re: Out-of-game Moderation
If we had someone who knew the community well and could help prioritize updates, that would be helpful. I know @Iron adam has done a good job in the past with highlighting suggestions that would help out the QoL of the game as he did with viewtopic.php?t=85913 Heck, I'd be cool if it was a joint effort by the staff team.Patel wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 8:47 pm

I wanted to have that relationship with the community. I lost interest in playing the game after League 4 was over, but I never wanted to stop working on development. I only log in to the main game to test things I'm working on in development. I just hope that developers and staff members can work as a team. We are all here for the same reason, we want to see the server grow. The best way we can achieve that is if the staff team and developers have a better connection (and communication), along with, if the developers know the sentiment of the community as a whole. I have already been trying to do that by posting some polls in the discord. I want to create a bigger poll after the new client gets released, asking where exactly people would like to see me working next. I want to get the dev blogs back into the mix as well. I might start doing that with the new client release since we are at a point where it's possible, and not just hypothetical if it could be released.

Hi Mike All I can say is all the best wishes to you and your family, just know pkhonor as a community is always here for you after all you have provided us with some of our best childhood moments and memories to date. When everything is passed over to somebody else I think can we can all say the community won’t let you down and we hope you can come back healthy as ever and bring pkhonor back to its glory days.Mike wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 7:47 pm I understand that there's currently a lot of frustration by the player base, the staff team and the developers (basically the entire community) in regards to how things are currently being run. Think it would be good to have more then one lead dev that takes over and who will be paid, I think raj,naz and Brant would do incredible things for the server if they were allowed to go wild if you will, and truthfully never been a fan of dev work been volunteer work as the time and knowledge there is with understanding code. I think some new ranks been handed out would be nice to keep on top of any toxicity that there is atm, maybe a new advisor (which I know technically isn’t apart of the staff team)maybe a forum moderator, discord moderator, and a community manager split out the responsibility and I believe would make the work for the staff team a lot easier.
