I must disagree with this.... The perception of “favoritism” is actually the observation of inconsistencies most of the time.

Right, but the source of inconsistencies is human error more often than it is prejudice.Elon musky wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:01 amI must disagree with this.... The perception of “favoritism” is actually the observation of inconsistencies most of the time.

And that is where we just agree to disagree. That’s where this question stems from. Does the community believe that the inconsistencies are due to favoritism, or is it 100% unintentional.Patel wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:03 amRight, but the source of inconsistencies is human error more often than it is prejudice.Elon musky wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:01 amI must disagree with this.... I like your idea indeed better tbh, I think this should be considered!Patel wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 3:45 am This used to be the case. The result was that we actually had the opposite problem - the community has collective biases too! Staff members they like, staff members they see as weak or dumb, staff members they don't like. So depending on the staff member, a given decision would be met without any issue, OR, the community would be in an uproar about it. This was huge when I was a mod/admin, I had a great relationship with the community so sometimes I could literally just say "stop doing ____" without punishing (for minor things) and people would listen. If you weren't in that position, you might have to issue a formal warning, which then makes the player mad, things escalate, and boom, they're muted. And it's because the player just didn't like the mod in the first place (sorry to say). They knew about that mod and who they punished. They themselves had sometimes been punished before.
Things have improved drastically since then. To amend my suggestion, if it's possible, the reports section could be open without identifying posters. Obviously if you know the mod well enough you'll pick up on speech patterns, but that's ok. For the most part, I think it's better when you don't know who exactly is punishing you. Then you attack the reasoning of the punishment rather than the punisher.
Weird flex tbh

Why is it all or nothing? I'm saying it's more often unintentional than it is favoritism. That means atleast 51% of the time, it's human error, and at most 49% of the time, it's favoritism. I both agree and disagree with you.Elon musky wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:06 amAnd that is where we just agree to disagree. That’s where this question stems from. That's beside the point. What we're talking about here are cases when someone is breaking a rule/law (for MINOR offences) but the enforcers choose not to charge them. This happens all the time IRL too. And sure, when last week you got a fine for jaywalking and then you see someone else doing it and a cop does nothing it makes you wanna go "omg unfair you have to charge them!" but opening every such decision to public approval is just a horrible idea.Elon musky wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 3:55 am That’s because police don’t issue punishments. They can only charge you with crimes. It’s a judge and a court that issue punishments. And in 99% of cases, it is all made public so not only can it be scrutinized by the public, but it can also be referenced in the future to ensure transparency and balance in the law system. Often times, pressure is exactly what a system needs when it makes a mistake. Look at the case for Cynthia Brown.

Re: Vote! No replies!
I've half typed a response to this thread a dozen times but always stopped short cause I was afraid I was going to come across wrong.
Ultimately this poll is worthless. Asking people to randomly judge if they view favoritism in situations is just a poorly worded question to begin with. Especially knowing that there are people who still, despite being told it's not true a dozen times, claim there's mods abusing their powers to attack them in the wilderness.
I've always been personally willing to talk to people at length about why things are done the way they are and why I've made the decisions I've made, but I understand why not every mod does it. It's not fun talking to people who will twist the situations they see to justify their opinions or actions.
I just don't know what you wanted to get out of this poll other than to find out that, like normal, people online will choose to view decisions they don't like as being biased, illogical, or wrong in some way that ignores the heart of the decision.

Is the poll useless? To who? To me it isn’t. If you don’t care about how the community feels, then that’s your personal problem. I care about how people feel, which is why I ask the question. So it is far from useless. Understanding how the community feels is the first step in making them happy.Church wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:12 am I've half typed a response to this thread a dozen times but always stopped short cause I was afraid I was going to come across wrong.

But it’s useless I guess...

This just shows that we care about different things. I care about the why.....Rapsey wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:10 amThat's beside the point. Why did I get charged and someone else didn’t? Is it because of his race? Is it because of his economic status? Is it because they go bowling on the weekends? Why did we commit the same crime, and I was punished and he wasn’t?
I care about the why.... Same thing ingame. I wonder why some receive punishments and why some do the same thing, and they don’t.
But just because you don’t find any validity in the results of this poll, doesn’t mean it is useless. Whether I agree or disagree with someone, I still care about how they perceive the server performance.

Poor choice of words on his part. It's not useless, it just doesn't tell you that much. It's basically like having a poll asking "do you think the government always acts in the best interests of the people?". Maybe if the result was 95% no it would be an indication of a problem but with polls like that you really can't expect to get a lot of positive votes.Elon musky wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:18 am Is the poll useless? EDIT:
I also care about the why, but nevertheless I think that letting the people sit in judgement over every smallest decision is a recipe for disaster.Elon musky wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 4:23 am This just shows that we care about different things. I care about the why.....
