[DISCUSSION THREAD] How is this not against the rules?

THIS IS COPIED FROM THE ORIGINAL THREAD HERE: viewtopic.php?t=86677

Player you're reporting: Lion (Zora is main)
Date/time: 8/9/23 10pm EST
Rule Broken: I'll copy it directly from the wiki since there seems to be confusion.
7) No botting
Players caught using a bot, autoclicker or macro tool will be banned on sight. Using a modified client will also get you flagged as a bot. Gaining XP or items while being AFK falls under the same punishment. When your account is performing a task, you must always be present to respond to random events or when a staff member reaches out to you.

Other:
There seems to be a general consensus that it is acceptable to 100% afk with a souls whip for hours on end- even while sleeping- if the npc is aggro and you can survive. The account "Lion" in particular is close to 1b melee stats, 13,500 tortured gorilla KC. I've seen clan members coming to pick up loot.

I spoke to Fungamer and Khilla about this. Khilla flat out defended it saying "I see no indication of botting", just AFK. Lion was completely unresponsive to me. Khilla made no effort to talk to him. Fungamer is looking into it more upon debate... I like you both, not trying to call you out, but there's definitely an issue here :doge:

I'm not asking for a mechanics change. TBH I like it how it is. But can we at least get random events and accountability for these accounts?

But if this the route we're going.... unlimited mage trees plox?

brb buying a few souls whips on alt accs

pls don't nerf gorillas, souls or other npc because players choose to break the rules - perhaps send randoms to accounts that have repeatedly killed the same npc for extended periods of time?

Edit: updated to remove incorrect assumed pkp earned

So you’re reporting this player because he afks tortured gorillas?

Moreso the issue? But the extent of the AFKing, yes. Look into the accounts "Lion" and "Zora" KC at thermo and tortured gorillas. He claims kc is afk while asleep. That goes along with the pkp and xp gained.

I consider this similar to reporting botting as the rules currently define it. Mass xp and considerable wealth is being gained while he isn't playing.

This is different from basic AFKing.

I've literally had khilla come check me for botting at mage trees or fishing while im just alt tabbing between homework. But this is acceptable because they're not botting, just "afk"?

You really did make a good point, no offense taken whatsoever. I was under the assumption that the rule was worded slightly differently than how it actually is worded.

One thing to note is that the amulet of aggression is also a thing to afk any NPC with. Granted, it has a cost associated with it (Gotta recharge the thing) and it's not possible to AFK with one indefinitely. These NPCs being aggressive but also easy enough to go fully AFK with a souls whip & kill for some good loot are almost definitely a developer oversight. I've also brought it up in the staff channels to see how we can deal with this.

Perhaps it's also a good idea to involve @Raj in this since he has access to both code & reports (as a mod & dev). Do you think this issue could be resolved by making it so that players are logged out when they haven't interacted with their client for, say, 1 hour? Or would making NPCs like tortured gorillas etc non-aggro be a better route to take?

Perhaps an auto log or tele exclusive to inactive combat? :prayge:

I like agro NPCs

It can be resolved however but it needs a poll or Rapsey or MIke ok'ing it

The ability to afk at some enemies is intentional and not against these rules, though I understand why the wording of it may seem to suggest otherwise.

Changing this would, as Raj said, require mechanical changes to the game and not staff punishment/ involvement.

If it is polled, can we be sure to give full context and the extent that it is being used (abused imo)?

I feel like you're contradicting one of your own rules by allowing this. If this is okayed and not changed, I'm 100% making at least 3 accounts for this , minimized, all in a cc :kekw: Wouldn't have done it before because I'd expect to get sent a random event or "bot checked" by staff just like I do when skilling.

Again, the wording of the rules may not be the best but there's nothing strictly wrong with what people are doing. It's not really adversely affecting people or the server to the best of my knowledge.

Afking lower level mobs is just a part of mmos, and as a RSPS with custom content we have the ability to afk at a higher tier.

I only play this server as an Iron. Please don't make me show you how it is abusive :prayge: because if this is allowed I'm about to take full advantage until it is changed and then just stake the gp I make. Just trying to help out

I'll post screenies. Give me a week or so
