Frost dragons guide for NON-premuim players

Basics
Why kill frost dragons?
- The main reason to kill Frost dragons is to get a guaranteed 1 frost bone per kill and occasional 1-3 noted frost dragon bones. They sell for 3m+ as of right now, adding up to 110m per inventory/trip. Only other drop worth picking up is Draconic visage, worth around 60m boosting your trip value to 170m.
How hard are they?
- They are level 275, with really basic gear it takes 15 minutes to fill inventory, restock and get back to killing them. With a slightly better gear you can decrease that time to 12 or even 10 minutes increasing your profit/hr from 500m (visage drops included) to 600-700m gp/hr or even more. As they are level 275 they also drop elite clue scrolls and upon completing the puzzle you get a casket wroth anywhere between 1.2-1.5B.
But they are in wilderness, I will get pked.
-It's true they are in wilderness, however they are located at very non popular place. Your highest chance of getting pked is right when you teleport there and when running back to mage arena to bank. You can even avoid these hazards by scouting before you continue go there. I will explain full run later.
Recommended :
Levels:
-99 attack, 99 strength, 70 prayer.
Inventory:
Assuming you have maxed melee stats and at least 70 prayer you should take the following in inventory:
This is what you need if you have a DFS.
- 1x overload potion (3000k-4000k)
- 1x super antifire potion (800k-1000k)
- 6-8 prayer potions (or super prayers), depending on your prayer level. For starting you can also take 10 pots to get a idea of how many you need and in the following runs adjust the amount.
This inventory will be used with all setups, only difference is amount of prayer potions needed.
If you only have a antifire shield you must bring some food with you because they can still hit you through antifire shield + antifire potion with their dragon's breath.
Saradomin brews are best choise as they heal the most hp/per inventory space. Bring about 10.
Prayer :
Protect/deflect from melee + piety/turmoil
Gear:
items in this text will be protected on death *
Tier 1/minimum
- Abyssal whip *
- Anti-dragon fire shield
- Ring of Wealth *
- Rune platebody
- Rune platelegs
- Rune boots
- Berserker helm
- Amulet of strength
- Rune gloves
- Skill cape
This is very basic gear, you can always switch as you like but I wouldn't recommend using anything less than a whip. You're risking less than 500k gp with this setup.
Note: some type of armour don't change your attack bonus so it's pointless to take it as deference doesn't play any role in this.
Tier 2/meduim
- Chaotic rapier *
- Dragonfire shield *
- Ring of Wealth *
- Fighter torso *
- Dragon platelegs
- Dragon boots
- Berserker helm
- Amulet of strength
- Barrows/dragon gloves
- Firecape
You can bring better gear but keep in mind you can only protect up to 4 items upon death.
Tier 3/high
- Chaotic rapier *
- Dragonfire shield *
- Berserker ring
- void melee helm *
- Void knight robe
- Void knight top
- Dragon boots
- Amulet of fury *
- Void knight gloves
- Firecape
You're risking around 230m if you're counting void as tradables.
Note: if you die with fire cape it will drop on the ground and stay there for 2 minutes before disappearing. After that time you can collect it in your refund box for 100m gp.
How to get there
Use Pk teleport north of Edgeville bank and chose Deep wilderness agility course teleport. Then run a bit west and you're there.
Full run:
- When you're fully geard and ready go scout the teleport spot if it's clear. When you teleport you will almost immediately see Frost dragon to your west.
- Pot up and pray melee before coming near them, they can hit over 20 with only melee. Overload will damage you 5x10 hp and it will last 5 minutes. After time runs out it will heal you back those lost 50hp, so you don't need to eat back up after poting up. Of course if you feel more save with full hp do so, you are in wilderness after all. Don't forget using super antifire potion.
-The best spot to kill them is at north-east part as there are 2 dragon spawn close to each other.
Or if that place is already taken by someone, be polite and move a bit west to this location
After killing enough dragons to fill your inventory with bones run to mage arena bank - the quickest way to get out of wilderness. Be cerful, there are often pker's camping at lever. If you spot them, you have few options:
- die.
- use ::home command and hide. You will get teleported to Edgeville, but it takes 2 minutes to charge up without getting interupted by combat.
- run back south and go around south part of mage arena and run east to lever at Deserted Keep. Another option is to stick to the wall and keep going east until you reach gates to go through and run south or use the teleporting obelisk.
Thanks to "First born" for reminding me of WildyWyrms and bats. You can use these at near the anvil to PJ pkers (more about them below).
- Now that you are out of danger just bank and restock
Some extra notes:
-If you loot coins, drop them and wait untill they disapear, they will go to your refound box. It adds up really slowly, but if you want some extra cash there you go.
-Selling items worth over 2.147m gp (~ 716 frost dragon bones) will give you 1b ticket + 1.147m gp. This will save you around 70m you would need to pay for buying 1b ticket from other players
- There are special creatures in wilderness called WildyWyrms. They use all 3 combat styles and can hit over 20 rapidly and can kill you quickly. Unfortunately one of possible spawns is near frost dragons and another two are near anvil. It's best to avid them or you can die even faster than pkers. However, if you can lure it from it spawn east enough to go to single combat area they can PJ pkers, making your escape possible. This also works with bats which are near anvil as well.
Good Luck!
