This thread epitomises the attitude that you Pkhonor fellas take when addressing what, in reality, is a really minor decision. You're all far too headstrong and I strongly recommend you hop off your high horses and open up those minds of yours. Some of you are fully committing so much time and effort into putting across some really flawed reasoning and logic. Calm down x

The 'Helper' rank has been rendered obsolete in my opinion. I find that those 'crown-hunting' members among the community are the most useful; those who actively seek to help others in order to please the 'Supreme Gods' (Supers x). Those who obtain this 'Helper' rank do NOT actively seek to better the community, but instead answer questions when questioned, which is what most people do anyway. This isn't all that bad, but as a few have said it's really just a status thing; there's not really much progress anywhere. Give it a vamp and put it not to a poll, but a thread where people can put aside their pride and discuss objectively and logically about what's actually going to help; not air their stupidity as has been exemplified here.

Please, you must all understand something that is germane to this debate.

The nature of the Helper rank is such that individuals are SELECTED for the rank. What does this mean? This means that, no matter how hard you try to change the perception of the rank, people will always view Helpers in an elevated light. If people have been distinguished in such a way from their peers, it naturally follows that others will attach positive connotations to those players. In other words, the very process of selection connotes a favourable type of character, a type of character that is smiled upon by staff/management.

And that is why it is farcical to attempt to reduce the Helper rank to whatever it is that management have planned so that Helper isn't viewed as a 'stepping stone' to Moderator.

Helpers need jail1 back, thats really it, it was only removed because of 1 person.

Whatever you do, it will still be a step closer to being a moderator but there is nothing wrong with that. You can say helpers aren't part of the staff team, but they are closer to mods, they have a seperate yellchannel, they have a seperate crown. People will always see it as being part of the staff team. Problems with that? I don't see any.

Agreed, no reason for helpers to have jail. It would be useful at times but see no reason to have it as all they do is assist people with their questions. If a mod is needed, a helper knows how to get in touch with one to take care of the problem.

I myself have thought about trying for helper rank. I love the community and the people in it, I have never viewed it as a moderator or trail moderator. Helpers have always been, in my opinion, someone who is open and willing to assist other players in whatever they possibly can, be it assisting new players find things, answering general questions about the server, knowing where to direct players if they cant help them, to being a trusted/knowledgeable player for older players out there. In my opinion helpers are.. well HELPERS! Players who want to grow the community and help others! If you want to moderate, apply for moderator. If you want to be an authoritative figure or anything like that, helper isnt for you.

In short. Helpers help. Moderators moderate. Admins administrate.

Doesn't sound like you need a re-work, you just need some knowledge and assistance from the head Helper himself, Thoby. Thoby can fix this little dilemma.
