I know multiple RSPS where they have shut down due to the takedown notice

The takedown notice doesn’t impact devs too much. We don’t receive donations from the game, aren’t linked to PkHonor as a business entity, and 99% of the code devs write isn’t really legally copyright infringement, given that our server is an emulator and our client was decompiled >15 years ago, with an exception for when we do cache updates or work on the cache update tool, since whoever does the cache update is obviously infringing on Jagex’s IP and ToS. It would be very hard and somewhat pointless for Jagex to go after our devs on this one.

In fact, I’ll go a step further, and say Mike probably doesn’t care either. Pkhonor has been around a long time, that’s not for no reason.

Even then, cache related stuff is open source because of Runelite. Sure the stuff inside the cache is Jagex property. I think this is mostly them trying to throw shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. If they knock out a couple of servers, then maybe those people come to the main game. To do this right before leagues is actually a genius play. People wanna play leagues, and hopefully some of them continue on to the main game

Jagex got, what, 1.5k dollars per suit. I'm from the industry, 1.5k would not get you hardly any progress at all with a legal claim. Unless they bulked it all together in one suit but that seems unlikely given the mix of responses. You could literally just dodge it for years on jurisdictional grounds (if based outside of UK of course). The money private servers make would hardly scratch the surface of what Jagex makes in revenue annually. No Judge would grant an injunction for that, and you wouldn't even get close after 1.5k dollars a case, in court fees alone.

This would essentially only hurt small servers that are afraid of the legal claims/fees. If you already don't give a shit and 'know' you're safe you probably won't be shaken by this.

jagex cant do shit :copium:
jagex has literally shut down multiple discord groups throughout the years lol mainly in reference to servicing/buying osrs gp, but they definitely can come after rsps discords if they wanted to

oh and runewild, the largest rsps, just got forced to shut down this week. david had literal thousands of dollars in donations coming in weekly, and he was forced to shut down, if you think pkh is safe 'because its been around for so long' youre only kidding yourself. jagex is a billion dollar company, if they want to shut it down they 100% will for project zanaris

Until they start actively targeting RSPS discords, I think it's still a safe place for the time being :copium:
