Successful hit
EDIT

SHARE
A successful hit is where during combat an attack overcomes its target's Defence. It is unlikely but possible to produce a 0 as a successful hit.

This can be better explained by considering the following:

For every attack, there are two stages.

Stage 1: Roll the attacker's offensive bonuses against the target's defensive bonuses. If true, proceed to stage 2. If false, produce a 0 (splash for player Magic attacks). This is not a successful hit.
Stage 2: Roll a hit ranging from 0 to the attacker's maximum hit.[1] This is a successful hit, even if a 0 is rolled.
A damaging spell cast by a player that hits a 0 which does not visibly splash is always a successful hit, and if it has additional effects (such as freezing for ice spells or chance to lower the target's Strength if Ahrim's equipment is worn) they will occur as usual.

Some passive effects only occur during successful hits - such as Guthan's and Karil's equipment set effects, as well as the serpentine helm where there is a chance to envenom the target.

The Saradomin godsword's special attack will only replenish the user's Hitpoints and Prayer points on a successful hit; likewise, the Zamorak godsword's special attack will only freeze a target on a successful hit. However, the dragon warhammer's special attack has to deal damage in order to lower the target's Defence level even if a successful hit of 0 is rolled.[2]

The special attacks of the granite hammer, dark bow, magic comp bow, magic longbow and seercull always result in a successful hit.

The Ranged and Magic attacks of the Kalphite Queen will always result in a successful hit.

From the OSRS wiki
From Mod Ash in 2015

The easiest way to think about it, at least in this situation.... is you registered a successful hit, but the DMG roll for that hit was 0... in the case of wearing max accuracy gear.
Which I'm fine with, that's rng on the dmg roll. I'm talking purely about accuracy regardless, if I'd cast barrage and hit a 0 it would still freeze the opponent. This is actually splashing. Same with melee, I'm in almost max strength gear it's not like the damage roll hits 0 that often with so many str bonus applied in the calculation.

imagine them actually fixing the problem after 10+ years, what it would do to the server player count. Its such a solid server in so many ways, but the combat system/pathing is fucked lol

I've checked to be sure, but the core code for accuracy calculations hasn't really changed in 2+ years. So I'm thinking this might more likely is unintended behaviour than anything else (most likely an oversight or bug). Wouldn't hurt to check our formulas against OSRS' though, might as well be sure!

Nonetheless, I currently don't have much free time to dive into it, but I'll surely be able to after finishing the Slayer Expansion. I'll put it onto my TO-DO list. Does anyone know if there's a public OSRS formula?

Nile, I've told you before and I'll tell you again; we established that being blindly negative towards everything won't fix any problems. Your response is uncalled for, and I am not too sure what it tries to achieve. If anything, it makes me LESS eager to fix this.

Thank you.

I found this Reddit post which doesn't have any data or citations but assuming the two align then I think it'd be almost safe to say that our combat system is correct. This post on Theoatrix' website aligns with the Reddit post as well.

If it's not fully replicatable, I think this quote from the Reddit post is a reasonable idea to aim for with the combat system
If the Attack and Defense rolls are the same, your accuracy will be 0.5 or 50%. Below 50% accuracy, increasing your Attack Roll will increase your accuracy linearly. Above 50% accuracy, increasing your Attack Roll will give diminishing returns on your accuracy.

That's perfect! Thank you very much. That's exactly what I needed.

As far as Theoatrix goes... I'm almost positive he did a few YT videos on the subject as well that may assist you.

Should I still make a separate glitch report on these things?

Also a to show how literally every deep wild fight looks like now:

Oh please dude shut up. There’s so fucking many countless amounts of threads of people suggesting pk improvements that are completely ignored (insert Ryan reply “we don’t ignore them, we read all threads but just don’t always reply” xd)
It has gotten to a point that it feels so absolutely shit to be a pker that for the first time in years ive just uninstalled the game and call a fuck it. PkHonor uppers don’t want us so its unplayable for us anyway. PkHonor had so so so many potential to do good if there was just listened. What the uppers failed to understand is that RSPS’s mainly attract pkers, because we CBA with the rest of the achievement grinds you’d have to do on the real game, but just want pvp action. What you have left now is a 40 active pvm playerbase thats just to weak or dumb to grind the actual game with real combat mechanics or actual hard bosses.
If you take time to go out to Nile that you’ve told him so many times then i will fucking tell you that posting positive suggestions so many times won’t do a damn thing either.

To be specific, many others have openly suggested to help Mike, but him being so insecure towards it fucked the entire game cuz he cant singlehandly compete with good servers/people’s demands. I will disagree with Nile regarding it being to late now, cuz the game still has cool/good potential, but the way its heading is what ive seen in a movie called the titanic.

Thank you

I think you're still living in the 2018-ish era. We have gotten shit done, we're roughly over 100+ players in weekends. Most suggestions, pk-related or pvm-related, get implemented these days. I make work of that. I've publicly said that I'm eager to work on PvP suggestions next, so if you have some constructive suggestions: I'm all ears. Believe me. I'll listen and I'll fix it.

It's easy to constantly shit on the team. We established that Mike isn't the best at communication, and just ranting on about him will make him less likely to interact with the community. Why bother?

Nonetheless, point me towards some suggestions. Write one up yourself. I don't mind, I'll gladly discuss whatever is wrong, and I'd love to fix it. It's stupid to think that 1 individual can maintain a server played by hundreds. I don't attempt to think that, I'd rather get direct input by those actually playing the game, those actually knowledgeable about the game.

But constantly bashing the server will make me less eager to help. Will me less eager to work on whatever you're bashing on about. Call it human nature. So again, being blindly negative towards everything won't fix any problems. Help by being constructive, that's what will actually fix the problems.
